Faculty Member, Department of Town and Regional Planning
About
My academic and practitioner experience has predominately revolved around landscape planning with a specific focus on Green Infrastructure.
My academic work has focussed on the development of a Green Infrastructure planning agenda in the UK, Europe and North America exploring the relationships between people, the landscape and policy formation. This approach has led me to a number of interesting research areas highlighting the value of forestry, landscape ecology and urban systems in promoting a Green Infrastructure approach to planning.
Furthermore, my academic work has drawn on practical experience as a researcher for the North-East Community Forest Partnership and more recently as a Green Infrastructure/Landscape Development Office at East Cambridgeshire District Council. Both of these roles enabled me to witness and facilitate first hand changes to the landscape in both urban and rural areas. My role in East Cambridgeshire provided me with a number of opportunities to work closely with environmental agencies, the public and local government to effect positive landscape change at a number of scales.
The experience I gained from practice have informed my outlook on public-academic relationships to highlight the need to support delivery as a central element of research. This has been especially relevant when debating the value and formation of landscape policy and assessing opportunities to deliver innovative and sustainable landscape change.
